As Lois is an experienced Psychologist as well as a qualified Clinical Hypnotherapist, she is able to employ a range of psychological approaches. When you make an appointment with Choices in Mind, you can trust that an approach will be chosen on the basis of its helpfulness to you, and that it will be used respectfully and effectively to meet your needs.
Hypnotherapy: You may have come to Choices in Mind specifically because you are seeking hypnotherapy. This in itself can be a relaxing and healing process. Lois uses trance work effectively and often incorporates other psychological techniques into this hypnotherapy. Often, hypnosis creates a valuable state in which a person is more receptive to, and more able to engage with, theapeutic work. Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP): NLP invites you to make changes to the way you experience, understand and respond to the world. People experience things via their senses (sight, hearing, touch, taste, physical feelings); interpret those experiences using thought expressed by language; and develop strategies, behaviour and procedures for responding to those thoughts (planning, behaving, evaluating, decision making). At Choices in Mind you will be encouraged to revisit experiences using all your senses, and re-interpret events or situations linguistically, and then realise the difference. Personal Construct Psychology: Our behaviour depends on how we make sense of things and on our viewpoint. According to Personal Construct Psychology, we tend to view our world through a series of patterns or templates that we have generated (constructed) throughout our lives. These constructs help us to predict, plan, organise and understand what is happening around us, to us and by us. Each personal construct has two opposing extremes (eg: peace------war, love---------hate) and every peron's set of constructs is different and holds unique meaning. Whilst these constructs are necassary to function in the world, they can be unhelpful when applied rigidly or if they represent the world in problematic ways. Sometimes it can be helpful to gain some insight into a person's unique understanding of the world by finding out about some of their core constructs and considering their impact. Solution Focused Therapy: Solution focused brief therapy is future-focused, seeking ways forward rather than delving into troubles from the past. Lois will use this approach to work with your strengths, skills and resources to bring about lasting change to build solutions for a positive future.
